"The connections from Finavia's Kokkola-Pietarsaari airport have improved recently. The more extensive offering has brought new users for air traffic services. It is important that companies, public administration and households in the province continue to be committed to using the connections provided by the airport. Finavia's decision to invest in the airport gives the opportunity to maintain and develop good services to airlines and passengers in accordance with demand,” says Ari Nääppä, Kokkola-Pietarsaari Airport Manager.

The air traffic area will be coated during the summer period when the air traffic volumes are smaller than usual. The airport will be closed between 25 June and 27 July 2012 to ensure flight traffic safety. The final completion of the work is expected in August 2012.

"The renovation will improve the future operating preconditions of the airport, which is why we request airport users to be patient next summer," says Mr Nääppä.

In 2011, the passenger volume at Finavia's Kokkola-Pietarsaari airport was about 95,000 passengers. The volume increased by 18% in comparison with 2010.

Finavia maintains 25 airports in Finland, performs security checks on passengers and luggage, keeps runways free of ice and snow, and ensures that take-offs and landings are safe.
