Search for an ultra-light airplane launched in Lapland

The air rescue operation of an ultra-light airplane has commenced in North Lapland. The search operation was launched last night and will continue today.

The ultra-light airplane has two seats and is yellow. The search is focused on the Utsjoki-Nuorgam region in the Kaldoaivi wilderness area. The airplane departed yesterday from Utsjoki, where it was also supposed to return to.

In the search mission, the Rescue Co-ordination Centre is using aircraft from the Finnish Border Guard, the Finnish military, the Finnish Air Rescue Society and the Norwegian Air Force. Once the airplane has been found, responsibility for communications with the public will transfer to the rescue authorities.

Finavia's Rescue Co-ordination Centre is responsible for aviation search and rescue service in Finland. The Rescue Co-ordination Centre operates as part of Finavia's air navigation.

Finavia will make further announcements via website about the search operation as the situation unfolds.
